The large, heart-shaped leaves carry the deep velvet surface and characteristic fuzzy, bristled petioles of the species, with prominent veining on the upper surface and cherry-red splotching on the underside. Light: Bright indirect light maintains the vivid coloration and iridescence; gentle morning sun can enhance the shimmer, but avoid harsh direct light which scorches the velvet surface.

Soil: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir; moisture-retentive but never waterlogged — excellent drainage essential.

Temperature/Humidity: Cool to warm temperatures between 60-80°F; high humidity of 60-80% is essential — one of the more humidity-demanding philodendrons, with edge browning the first sign of dry air.

Watering: Keep consistently moist but not soggy — allow the top 1-2" to dry slightly between waterings. Verrucosum dislikes drying out fully; never waterlog.

Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks during active growth; supplement with calcium and magnesium for best leaf quality. Reduce in winter.
